“Thai Lifestyle Medicine and Wellbeing Association Strengthens Healthy Living Mission with Landmark MOUs, Partnering with 70 Organizations to Tackle Aging and NCD Challenges”

His Excellency Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk, Privy Councilor, presided over the signing ceremony of the second Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of lifestyle medicine in the daily lives and professional practices of personnel and the public, with 49 partner organizations. He also opened the academic conference on “Aging Population and Declining Population: From Forecasting to Prevention,” organized by the Thai Lifestyle Medicine and Wellbeing Association (TLWA) in collaboration with the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine, the Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance, 21 original partner organizations, and new partner organizations, on February 21 and 22, 2025, at the Satharanasuk Building, Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University.

Lifestyle medicine is a health promotion and problem-solving approach based on lifestyles that are not conducive to good health. It emphasizes six key pillars: (1) eating whole food, plant-based foods, (2) engaging in regular physical activity, (3) getting adequate sleep for health restoration, (4) managing stress, (5) avoiding harmful substances that pose health risks, and (6) maintaining positive psychology and social connecteness. These pillars serve as basic guidelines for the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension.

The Thai Lifestyle Medicine and Wellbeing Association aims to promote the practice of lifestyle medicine, support continuing education through collaboration with institutions both domestically and internationally, and disseminate knowledge about disease prevention through lifestyle medicine to the public. The association collaborates with the Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance and the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine, with networks in 31 countries. The association signed the first academic collaboration agreement on the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of lifestyle medicine with 21 organizations related to the six pillars of lifestyle medicine on July 8, 2024. A second agreement with 49 organizations was signed on February 21, 2025.

The association recognizes that Thailand is facing an increasing proportion of elderly people and health problems caused by NCDs resulting from lifestyle behaviors. Meanwhile, the population of newborns is rapidly decreasing, and the number of deaths annually surpasses the number of births. This trend is expected to impact the country and its citizens in various dimensions. Therefore, the association has consulted with experts and organizations to find solutions to these challenges, applying lifestyle medicine to address the issue. It aims to integrate medical knowledge and related sciences to help adjust health behaviors, ensuring sustainable quality of life. The association
also plans to develop strategies for future adaptation to present to the relevant stakeholders. An academic forum has been organized to discuss these issues, which is expected to raise awareness and foster continuous collaboration to address these challenges and develop the future Thai population into high-quality citizens.
